Life Health Foods NZ has sought Commerce Commission approval to acquire competitor Chalmers Organics.

Life Health Foods and Chalmers Organics both supply vegetarian and plant-based products – including meat alternatives – to supermarkets, other retailers and the foodservice sector.

Life Health Foods is a sister company to Sanitarium Health Food Company, both owned by the New Zealand Conference Association, a registered charitable trust owned by the Seventh Day Adventist religious sect. Life Health Foods manufactures products in New Zealand under brand names including Bean Supreme, Alternative Meat Co, Vegie Delights and Lisa’s.

Chalmers Organics is based in Auckland and manufactures a range of meat alternative products under the Tonzu and Zenzo brands. It also makes plant-based dairy alternative products.
