Vanish, a laundry and stain-removal brand, has launched a campaign in partnership with Australian upcycling specialist Upparel to divert 1 million clothing items from landfills.

The ‘Make Textile Waste Vanish’ campaign aims to educate Australian consumers on how to avoid or reduce textile waste by simply taking care of clothes better using Vanish products.

A consumer research led by Vanish found that an average Australian purchases 27kgs of new clothing each year, however wears only 4 per cent of their wardrobe. Almost 33 per cent said they were likely to discard their clothes once stained and 45 per cent were willing to mend them.

Upparel founder and CEO, Michael Elias says textile waste is a hidden issue and immediate action is needed.

“By extending the lifecycle of our clothing we can reduce landfill, greenhouse gas emissions, and the energy used to create and dispose of unwanted clothing.”
