Trans-Tasman food manufacturer George Weston Foods (GWF) is set to invest $132.9 million in building new facilities across regional Victoria.

The investment includes a new flour mill in Ballarat for its Mauri bakery ingredient business, setting up a boutique bakery in Bendigo, expanding its Yumi’s plant in Hallam, relocating its Golden Crumpet manufacturing line to Dandenong, and upgrading its Don business in Castlemaine to boost exports.

Stuart Grainger, George Weston Foods’ chief executive, said the new flour mill, together with the other investments, will enable the company to continue to grow its brands and better serve the needs of its Mauri customers.

The food and manufacturing sector in Victoria is valued at $38 billion and employs more than 72,000 people, according to Austrade. The state is also home to a number of manufacturing facilities from global multinationals including Mars Wrigley, Frucor Suntory and Naturli.

Grainger added the investments support the future of sustainable agriculture and food production in Victoria.
