Australian tea company Origin Tea has launched a new sparkling iced tea range across 667 Woolworths stores nationally.
The range comes in 250ml cans and comprises two flavours: Sneaky Peach and Tropical Kiss. Each can offer 53 calories and 13g of sugar.
The company says the flavours and extract used in the range are made from a specially brewed syrup from tea leaves picked in Sri Lanka.
Co-founder Chris Seaton said the process and recipe took time to create a beverage that tasted good and contained real tea.
“Our tea masters in Sri Lanka spent six months perfecting the process of brewing Ceylon leaves to create a syrup that was ‘teay’ enough to be a genuine tea drink and not just a tea-flavoured product, with just the right amount of sweetness from natural cane sugar and a refreshing fizz to create the perfect sparkling iced tea.”
He added there is a growing interest in Australia for single-origin tea which offers unique flavours and health benefits.
Sparkling teas are widely available in many Asian markets, but to date, this is thought to be the first to find its way onto the shelves of a major supermarket chain in Australia.
