Sanitarium launches alt-milk range with clinically proven ‘superplant’ ingredients

Health food company Sanitarium has launched a new generation of plant-based alt-milks with ingredients it says are clinically proven and designed to deliver targeted health benefits for consumers.

The new range, named Plantwell, includes a high-protein soy milk with natural plant ingredients to build bone density and prebiotic fibres to nurture gut flora, a cholesterol lowering oat milk with plant sterols, and an almond milk with powerful beta glucans to strengthen immune defenses.

Sanitarium brand manager and dietitian Anja Laudrin said the company had spent more than four years researching “superfood and superplant ingredients” to create the plant milks with science-backed health benefits.

“This has included reviewing and collating comprehensive scientific evidence to substantiate the food-health relationships of key ingredients and notifying FSANZ, so we are able to use and communicate the clinically proven superplants and their health benefits,” Laudrin added.

The products, made at the company’s NSW Central Coast facility, are vegan and free from dairy, lactose, preservatives, artificial colours and flavours. They are also low in sugar and saturated fat, and high in fibre.

Plantwell milks will be available at Woolworths this month with a RRP of $4.50. Broader distribution is set for later this year.
