Calvin McDonald has been named as the CEO of global beauty giant The Wella Company.

Formerly the CEO of Lululemon and Sephora Americas, McDonald will lead Wella through the next chapter of its 145-year history. He will begin his role on April 2.

McDonald will also be appointed to the company’s board of directors and will be based in New York. Glenn Murphy will remain as executive chair of the company.

“We are delighted to welcome Calvin to The Wella Company,” Murphy said.

“As a three-time CEO, he brings decades of experience at industry-leading global consumer brands and retail businesses. Calvin’s proven ability to drive results through product differentiation, category expansion, and smart investments will help us win in the dynamic beauty sector.”

Private equity firm KKR recently took full control of The Wella Company, following a final purchase of shares from Coty in December.

The company’s portfolio includes Wella Professionals, Sebastian Professional, OPI, Ghd, Nioxin, and Clairol.

“I’m thrilled to return to the beauty industry – an innovative, fast evolving sector powered by consumers who are genuinely passionate about the products they love,” McDonald added.

“This is a pivotal moment for The Wella Company, and I’m excited to join this talented team as we shape the future of beauty together.”
