BioCheese has released dairy-free Cheddar Shred with Protein, marking a first for the Australian grocery market.
Made from pea protein, the new offering delivers 10 grams of protein per 100 grams of product. It is formulated for melting and culinary uses such as toasties, tacos, and salads, and comes packaged in a 200-gram resealable bag with a recommended retail price of $9.
The release represents the first added-protein dairy-free alt-cheese on Australian supermarket shelves.
“Plant-based and dairy-free shouldn’t mean settling for less,” said Vicky Pappas, BioCheese’s CEO. “We wanted to prove that with our Cheddar Shred with Protein. It’s the first of its kind in Australia, and we’re proud to be leading the way on nutrition as well as taste.”
Pappas added that the product allows the company to improve the functional profile of plant-based cheese while maintaining expected standards for flavour and performance.
BioCheese Cheddar Shred with Protein is available across Coles supermarkets and independent grocers nationwide.
Operating in the Australian plant-based dairy market since 2014, BioCheese has been distributing a line of allergen-friendly cheese and cream alternatives which are made mainly from coconut oil and starches, catering to vegan, lactose-free, and gluten-free diets.
