unnamed-5Spar Maclean in Northern NSW which claims to be the longest running grocery store in Australia has undergone its largest renovation in 15 years.

Spar Maclean has undergone several refurbishments and upgrades within its history, with the last major renovation carried out 15 years ago, however, the last six months have seen the biggest changes in its history.

The renovation has resulted in a fresh, modern image for long standing supermarket and the store has been expanded to provide a larger shopping area.

Highlights of the new look supermarket  include an extended fresh product department, a full service deli, and other services such as full Eftpos facilities, phone recharge, special event ticketing and fishing licences.

The store, owned by Bob and Judith Little, will officially launch on Saturday, February 28 will be attended by Spar International CEO, Dr Gordon Campbell.

“The unique history of Spar Maclean, combined with the way they epitomise the Spar ideals, make this celebration one worth travelling for,” Campbell said.

During his visit to Australia, Campbell will also make a keynote presentation at the Retail Leaders Forum, ‘New Geographies, New Consumers – Lessons in International Retail Success’, which will be held in Sydney on March 2 and 3.

Spar, founded in the Netherlands in 1932 by Adriaan van Well, is the world’s largest organisation of independent retailers with more than 12,300 stores in 36 countries on four continents. In 2013, Spar had global annual retail sales of €32.1 billion.
