Woolworths has opened a regional distribution centre in Western Sydney as part of a $1.3 billion investment in automated supply-chain infrastructure.
Located beside the supermarket’s national distribution centre, the two sites will move more than 5 million cartons each week across a 20,000-product range.
With direct links to Port Botany, interstate rail and Sydney’s M5 and M7 motorways, the precinct is designed to streamline freight flows and reduce reliance on road transport.
Woolworths said the combined facilities will improve on-shelf availability and accelerate the introduction of new products through more efficient replenishment.
Spanning 75,000sqm, the centres will use automation to build aisle-ready pallets matched to individual store layouts, helping teams restock more quickly.
Woolworths Group CEO Amanda Bardwell said the investment strengthens both service and operations.
“This investment is about more than just infrastructure; it is critical for our customers, our team and our future capability,” she said.
“Behind the scenes, this investment delivers a more resilient supply chain, while the automation also significantly reduces heavy manual handling, which makes a real difference to our team members every single day.”
