Somerdale’s specialty cheese roadshow

Somerdale's Heraldic rangeDiscounter Costco is teaming up with Somerdale, leading supplier of British cheese to the Australian retail and foodservice sector, for a specialty cheese roadshow this month.

Cheese lovers can look forward to tasting a whole range of cheeses at the wholesalers’ warehouses across the country from October 19 to 23 .

“We’re really excited to be teaming up with Costco Australia to showcase to their customers the very best of British cheese,” said Di Jones, the head of Somerdale’s Australian operations.

“Whether they sample traditional cheeses such as the cloth-wrapped Cave Aged Cheddar – a quintessential British cheddar – or our unique and highly innovative Il Truffelino, visitors to the roadshows will be sure to have a taste experience second to none.”

Consumers will be able to devour samples of some of the very best ones from the UK – ranging from the traditional, aged Cheddar through to the latest take on modern British cheese.

“Representatives from Somerdale UK and leading British cheesemakers including Barbers, Ford Farm and Abergavenny Fine Foods will be on hand to bring the story of their cheeses to life and explain how best to use and merchandise them,” Jones explained.

The lineup of tasting cheeses includes:

Il Truffelino – combines the creamy texture of classic English cheddar with the complex and luxuriant flavour of black summer truffle.

Cave Aged Cheddar – a delicious, full bodied farmhouse cheddar, ‘Cave Aged’ is a cloth bound Cheddar aged deep within the caves at Wookey Hole in Somerset, England.

Somerdale Wensleydale with Cranberry – Creamy with an open texture, Wensleydale is one of the oldest cheese varieties in England.  It has a natural sweet acidity that compliments fruit, best of all cranberries.

Poacher’s Cheddar – part of Somerdale’s ‘Heraldic’ range of flavoured cheddars, Poacher’s combines great tasting mature English cheddar cheese with caramelised onions.

Coastal Cheddar – a unique tasting cheddar from Ford Farm in Dorset, England – aged for up to 15 months it has a deliciously sweet, distinctive flavour.

Blue Stilton – the “King of English Cheeses”, Long Clawson’s Blue Stilton is wonderfully creamy with the distinctive blue vein.
