Aussies celebrate with Vegemite flavoured ice cream

vegemite-ice-creamA Vegemite ice cream for Australia Day? Frugii Dessert Laboratory will serve the unique ice cream flavour on January 26, to its customers in Canberra.

It coincides with Bega Cheese’s recent acquisition of the well-known brand from the US food giant Mondelez.

“It’s one of those tastes that if you ease back on it, it’s like an interesting salted caramel flavour,” John Marshall told AAP.

“I was quite happy to see something very Australian back in Australian hands – I think that’s a good move,” Marshall added.

He has been creating ice cream from his own bases, extracts, pastes, powders, freeze-dried products and chocolate for more than a decade.

“I want people to be able to go ‘Wow, that is actually nice’, but some people will say ‘No, that just belongs on toast’,” he said.

Bega also took ZoOsh and Bonox under its belt. The dairy giant said their recent deal is expected to earn by $40-$45 million and revenue by $310 million during the first year of operation.
