Bega Group has expanded its range of spreads with the introduction of Vegemite Kids, a new variant specifically formulated for children, that contains 50 per cent less salt.
The spread rollout marks the brand’s most significant product introduction since the release of its squeezy format in 2020.
Modified to have a milder flavour profile and a smoother texture compared to the original version, the product contains less than 50 per cent salt and excludes artificial colours, while retaining its traditional flavour and vitamin composition.
According to Rachael Adams, senior nutritionist at Bega Group, the new product maintains the same B-vitamin properties as the original spread, including vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, folate (B9), and B12, which support child development and immune function.
“It’s also about meeting kids right at the start of that journey and giving them something that’s unmistakably Vegemite, just a little milder in flavour, comprising 50 per cent less salt, no artificial colours and retains a smooth texture, making it easy for children to spread,” said Tegan Froud, SBM at Bega Group.
The new product line joins the existing commercial range, which includes standard Vegemite, a squeezy bottle, a low-salt version, and a gluten-free variant.
The product has a recommended retail price of $5.70 and is available at Coles and Woolworths supermarkets nationwide.
In April, Bega launched a campaign encouraging children to be more active, as research highlights growing concerns around screen time among the youth.
