SodaStream, Coles Express launch national partnership

SodaStream has announced a national launch with Coles Express that will see SodaStream CO2 cylinders available for customers at more than 660 Coles Express sites around Australia.

The roll-out follows a successful 2016 trial, which exceeded expectations.

At $19 per exchange, customers can swap their empty cylinders for full ones, or purchase spare cylinders for $35. Each SodaStream CO2 cylinder can create up to 60 litres of sparkling water, which equates to a cost of around $0.40 per litre.

“It’s an Australian tradition that we replace our BBQ gas bottles at the petrol station,” said Mark Fenton, SodaStream Australia’s Managing Director. “It therefore made sense to work alongside Coles Express to extend a similar offer to SodaStream users.”

The collaboration follows research by SodaStream, which shows that nearly 1 in 5 (19%) people did not know where they could get a SodaStream cylinder refill from. Additionally, 16% were unaware that SodaStream cylinder exchanges were available at all.

A recent market study shows that the sparkling water category will grow by 40% over five years (2015-2020), and is now officially the fastest growing carbonated drinks category in the country.  In addition to the obvious health benefits of drinking sparkling water versus sugary soft drinks, it is estimated that families save approximately 2190 plastic bottles a year by using a SodaStream.

“SodaStream already wins hands down on cost and sustainability. In fact, a recent independent taste test showed that most people preferred sparkling tap water, made from a SodaStream machine, than premium sparkling water brands, which can be 1600% more expensive*.  As more and more Australian families turn away from unhealthy soft drinks towards sparkling water, we wanted to ensure that SodaStream also won on convenience,” said Fenton.

Coles Express General Manager, Anna Croft, said, “Following the success of the SodaStream trial and the overwhelmingly positive response from our customers, we’re pleased to be able to offer such a unique product to more than 660 locations around Australia. We’re always looking to bring new products at great prices like SodaStream to our shelves for our customers to try.”
