Amazon to launch with 500+ partners

Amazon signageMore than 500 Australian businesses have signed deals with Amazon to list products on its marketplace at launch, the ecommerce giant revealed on Friday.

Ahead of its imminent launch of marketplace Down Under, which as Octomedia reported yesterday is slated for late-2017 early-2018, Amazon will host a marketplace seller summit in November to drum up further business for its platform.

The event will take place in Sydney on November 13, more than a stone’s throw away from the company’s Australian distribution centre in Melbourne, and will feature some of the first public remarks by Amazon’s local executives, country manager Rocco Braeuniger and head of marketplace Fabio Bertola.

The Australian Retailers Association and the SME Association of Australia have come on board as partners for the half-day event.

“The internet and technology have the power to level the playing field between big and small businesses, empowering Australian companies, large and small, to grow their sales and their business online,” said Braeuniger. “We look forward to enabling local businesses to make their products available to a wide audience, not only in Australia, but also worldwide.”

A myriad of FMCG suppliers are expected to utilize Amazon marketplace in Australia, with UBS research having indicated earlier this year that grocery suppliers were some of the first potential partners Amazon reached out to.
