Woolworths underpaid staff up to $300m

Woolworths Group admitted this week that it underpaid 5700 of its staff up to $300 million. A salary error that could date back to 2010 was discovered during an internal review earlier this year. The underpayment involves store team members at Woolworths and Metro stores.

Amazon to open third warehouse in Perth

Amazon announced this week that it will open a new fulfilment centre in Perth by the end of this year. It will offer speedy delivery to more customers as the service goes online in late 2019. It’s Amazon’s third warehouse in Australia, with the others based in Melbourne and Sydney.

Coles added Liquorland to Uber Eats

Coles is testing out on-demand alcohol delivery with Uber Eats. The delivery platform is now featuring a number of Liquorland outlets. A spokesperson for Coles told Inside FMCG that the move is based on the company’s commitment to make life easier for customers. Customers can choose from almost 60 Liquorland products on the Uber Eats app, including beer, cider, wine, spirits, non-alcoholic drinks and snacks.

Countdown exec to lead BWS

Woolworths Group has appointed Scott Davidson as the new managing director of BWS. He will leave his post as general manager of buying and merchandise at Countdown Supermarkets before taking the helm in January. The appointment comes just six weeks out from a shareholder vote on the proposal to merge and separate Woolworths’ drinks and hospitality businesses as Endeavour Group.

Chobani releases Halloween batch

Chobani Australia has created a special batch of yoghurt for Halloween. The Pumpkin Pie Flip features six different labels and is made of spiced pumpkin puree with strained yoghurt and mix ins. Around 70,000 of the products have been released to Coles stores nationwide.
