Coles confirms two COVID-19 cases among Victorian team members

Supermarket giant Coles has confirmed that two of its staff in Victoria have contracted COVID-19, and is taking the necessary precautions to protect other staff members and customers.

A team member at Coles’ Brandon Park supermarket in Mulgrave and another employee at the adjoining Liquorland store both tested positive for Coronavirus.

The two team members are now isolated at home and the workers who have come into close contact with them were also told to self-isolate and seek medical help should they display any symptoms.

The supermarket giant said the stores continue to trade and has assured the public that there’s a low risk of transmission for customers and team members.

On the recommendations of the Victorian Department of Health, Coles has extensively sanitised the stores in question.

“The safety of our customers and team members is our most important focus and we continue to work closely with Federal and State Departments of Health and relevant health authorities to keep up to date with the latest advice,” said Coles.

The Federal Government released COVID-19 Hygiene Practices For Supermarkets this week, which states that “there is no requirement to close a store if a staff member tests positive for COVID-19.”

According to the Victorian Department of Health, “Extensive testing has shown that people who have passed through places where there was a confirmed case, known as casual contacts, have an extremely low risk of transmission and are not currently recommended for testing”.

Coles thanked customers for their ongoing support of team members as it works to keep customers supplied with essential food and groceries.
