Wesfarmers Health has acquired Pharmacy 4 Less Group, a national discount pharmacy chain that entered voluntary administration on April 29.

The deal, effective from June 4, includes 53 franchised community pharmacies under the Pharmacy 4 Less brand and an additional 12 pharmacies under the Your Chemist Shop banner, with most stores located across Victoria and NSW. Pharmacy 4 Less Group also provides support services to approximately 30 independent pharmacies.

According to Wesfarmers Health, the acquisition strengthens its existing relationship with the group, which is currently supplied by its pharmacy wholesale arm, Australian Pharmaceutical Industries (API).

“Wesfarmers Health recognises the uncertainty these franchise partners have experienced over the past months and we are pleased to acquire the business,” said chief customer officer Richard Pearson.

“With more stable financial support, we see good growth potential for Pharmacy 4 Less’s brands and stores and look forward to working with the franchise partners.”

Earlier this year, Wesfarmers decided to wind down Catch, citing a competitive Australian e-commerce landscape, five years after acquiring the online marketplace for $230 million.
