Reef Distillers has partnered with Pirrone Brothers to launch what it says is a world-first vodka made from zucchini blossoms.
Distilled in Yeppoon on the Southern Great Barrier Reef, Zucchini Flower Vodka is bottled at 38 per cent ABV and produced in small batches using zucchini blossoms and fruit.
The spirit is described as bright and elegant, with soft floral notes and a refreshingly aromatic profile.
Pirrone Brothers was established in 1947 as a sugar cane farm and has since evolved into a major zucchini producer under the leadership of Ross Wayne Pirrone.
Pirrone Brothers spokesperson Josh Pirrone said the collaboration marked a new chapter for the family’s long-standing agricultural heritage.
“Our family has farmed in the Burdekin for generations, and partnering with Reef Distillers to transform our zucchini flowers into a premium vodka is something we are incredibly proud of,” Pirrone said.
“It’s a celebration of our land, our produce and the innovation that continues to drive regional farming forward.”
Reef Distillers co-owner Laureth Rumble said the product reflected the distillery’s focus on originality and regional collaboration.
“This is the kind of idea you dream about, something truly original that honours both regional agriculture and the art of distillation,” Rumble said.
“The Pirrone Brothers’ flowers bring an elegance and softness that you simply can’t find anywhere else.”
Zucchini Flower Vodka is available online with an RRP of $125 for a 750ml bottle, with a rollout to Star Liquor stores across Queensland planned in the coming weeks.
