Finish, the dishwasher detergent brand, has launched paper-based, kerbside recyclable packaging for its dishwashing tablets.
The company says the innovation is projected to remove up to 48 tonnes of plastic from the brand’s packaging annually, an amount equivalent to more than 1.8 million plastic water bottles.
The new packaging was developed over four years of research and development, involving more than 55 production trials.
Engineers had to overcome the technical challenge of creating a water-resistant barrier to protect the chemical stability of the tablets while ensuring the material remained compatible with standard paper recycling streams.
“This launch represents a real step forward for the entire home care category in Australia,” said Laurie Ferland-Caouette, head of sustainability at Reckitt Australia.
“We anticipate one in two Finish tablet packs sold will now be on our paper-based packaging range, making it easier for Australians to make a more sustainable choice as part of their everyday routines.”
The new packaging will be available across selected ranges in major supermarkets nationwide.
In 2024, Finish continued its partnership with the non-profit organisation Rural Aid for the fifth year.
