Australia’s ready-to-eat meals and meal kit sector is flourishing as time-poor consumers seek convenience and nutrition – especially full-time working couples and those living alone.

But to date, while the range of such products is ever-expanding, seafood options are under-represented. “Every meal kit and ready-to-cook brand faces the same challenge,” explains Justin Vella, GM of Global Seafoods. “Delivering fresh, high-quality seafood consistently, reliably and at scale.”

Global Seafoods, a 100-per-cent Australian family-owned seafood business for 50 years and the trusted partner behind some of Australia’s most loved seafood-inspired meals, is meeting that challenge.

Data from Expert Market Research estimated the ready-to-eat meals market to be worth $3 billion last year and forecasts a CAGR of about 6 per cent through to 2035, powering the sector to $5.2 billion in value.

Another research house, Research and Markets, estimated Australia’s meal kit market reached $262 million in 2023, with a historical CAGR of 6.84 per cent during the preceding five years, projecting grow to $360 million by 2028.

Recognising the significant opportunities of such growing markets, Global Seafoods is focusing on developing product offerings that are suitable for the companies producing such meals.

“Leading meal kit providers rely on us, and here’s why we make seafood simple,” explains Vella. “Our high-spec products are versatile and consistent, ideal for frozen meals, portion-controlled use and ready-to-cook dishes. That means they are easy to work into your product proposition.”

With a half-century legacy of supplying an extensive range of seafood, including Norwegian Salmon, Vannamei Prawns, and New Zealand Hoki, to both foodservice customers and consumers, Vella believes Global Seafoods is well-positioned to help meal-makers expand their offerings with healthy seafood options.

“We source the best seafood from around the world, and we work with our suppliers to provide the best quality products in formats that are suitable for our extensive and diverse customer base. Whether it is for high-end restaurants, large-scale catering companies or simply for household consumption, we strive to meet the seafood needs of all,” says Vella.

“We work with all our customers to determine what product offering will work best for them, and then we literally go to the ends of the earth to source and supply the products to meet those needs.”

Vella says the company ensures it can offer producers of meal kits and ready-to-eat meals with options spanning every price point, enabling them to remain cost-effective without compromising on quality.

“We offer our partners transparent sourcing and stable pricing,” he explains. “You can plan menus and budgets with confidence.”

Global Seafoods’ flexible logistics and nationwide distribution ensure a seamless, low-maintenance partnership, freeing manufacturers to focus on creating great meals.

“From recipe development to new product innovation, our team will work with you to tailor seafood solutions that fit your brand, your application and your customers.”

Custodians of the sea

For decades, Global Seafoods has delivered on the promise of trust, innovation and quality that industry leaders rely on when sourcing seafood, says Vella.

The company also embraces sustainability across its fishing and sourcing, ensuring partners can promise end consumers ethical and ecologically friendly meal options.

“We believe in the careful stewardship of our precious marine resources,” says Vella. “We are driven by playing our role in fostering a thriving, healthy planet for future generations.

“Our tactic is straightforward: We leverage our industry position for good around the globe by harnessing our unique relationships, synergies of scale, and dedication to achieving excellence – all while continually innovating and seeking fresh long-term sustainable opportunities.”

As custodians of the sea, Global Seafoods promises to:

  • Produce healthy and accessible seafood worldwide.
  • Build a strong, well-supported workforce and seafood community.
  • Deliver a reliable, consistent supply of seafood.

“Our shared values are fundamental to our operation and culture,” concludes Vella. “They identify who we are. These values underline and guide our commitment, attitude, work ethic, and the quality of products we offer.”
