Australia’s poultry producer Baiada has opened its new Tamworth Processing Plant, representing one of the nation’s largest regional food manufacturing investments.
Designed as a large-scale, integrated operation, the facility brings together new technology, sustainability initiatives and modern employee amenities to improve quality and efficiency while reinforcing domestic food production capability.
At launch, the processing plant can process about 1.5 million chickens per week, and up to 15,000 birds per hour. The site is set to reach an approved capacity of 3 million birds per week through a future processing line.
The opening comes amid growing demand for poultry products, as well as the firm’s significant expansion of its production and processing capabilities to support leading brands, including Steggles and Lilydale Free Range.
Baiada has operated in Tamworth since 1966. Simon Camilleri, MD of Baiada Poultry, said the investment marks a new chapter in the six-decade-long relationship, thereby strengthening the company’s enduring commitment to the region and the people who call it home.
“Our history in this region stretches back to the 1960s, when Charlie Baiada first established operations here, and this facility reflects our confidence in the future of Tamworth,” said Camilleri.
Tamworth, with its strategic location, established poultry industry, infrastructure and skilled workforce, was an ideal base not only for Baiada’s broader network but also for Australia’s long-term industry growth, the company added.
