NT prawn farm given green light

prawnsA prawn farm which could increase Australia’s prawn production by 20 times has been given the green light by the Northern Territory and Federal Governments.

The $1.45 billion project, to be funded by Seafarms Group, will be fast tracked after being granted major project status by both governments on Monday.

If the project goes ahead in the NT and Western Australia it “will be one of the world’s largest prawn aquaculture farms and employ 1600 people at full operation”, Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss said in a statement.
