Huon Aquaculture awarded AA rating

huonHuon Aquaculture is the first Australian business of its kind to obtain an AA grade in two categories of a prestigious global food standards accreditation, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standards.

The salmon producer was given the AA rating after a rigorous testing and accreditation process of its new Huon Smokehouse and Product Innovation Centre at Parramatta Creek, Tasmania.

Huon Aquaculture co-founder and chief executive officer, Peter Bender said the BRC rating, a program used by over 23,000 certified suppliers in 123 countries, was a testament to years of hard work and commitment to standards of excellence.

“Huon has been working tirelessly for three decades to produce and distribute safe, high quality food to Australian consumers,” Bender said. “BRC is globally regarded as the industry wide benchmark certification for best practice, quality and food safety in the food industry. We are exceptionally proud to be the first Australian salmon company to achieve this rating in two categories.”

Bender said that Australians are very discerning consumers when it comes to food and the BRC rating demonstrates Huon Tasmanian Salmon’s commitment to food safety and quality.

“We are already an international leader in aquaculture farming techniques and our seafood processing facilities are some of the best in the world. We believe this helps us produce some of the best tasting salmon products available in the Australian market,” Bender said.

He said said the new Smokehouse and Product Innovation Centre was one of the most advanced in the world.

“This facility is a crucial step in ensuring we are taking the highest quality, innovative products to market, all proudly carrying the Tasmanian brand.”
