Seeing a gap in the dessert market for sweet dips, Chris’ chief marketing officer Amanda Habben has recognised a behaviour amongst the customers at restaurants.
“We looked at everyday behavior and what we typically do outside of home. We were inspired by the coffee style cocktails and coffee and liqueur based desserts, such as Affogato that are enjoyed after a meal at a restaurant. We wanted to find a way to bring that same entertaining experience into households, and make our customers look great as a host. Our team was tasked with creating a new occasion for the dip category – a dip for after-dinner,” said Habben.
The After-Dinner Dips range has launched four new flavours: Goat’s cheese, orange and poppy seed with honey; Goat’s cheese, fig & pistachio, with honey to bake; Mascarpone mocha salted caramel and Mascarpone amaretto flavour espresso crème. They are ready to serve in handmade European reusable terracotta pots.
Habben explained that the “head developer took inspiration from cocktails and liqueurs served after dinner, like espresso martinis, amaretto, Frangelico – all of which partner nicely with coffee and a creamy base like mascarpone.”
“The inspiration for our goat’s cheese range came to our developer while eating an orange and poppy seed cake at a café – the slightly tart fruit partnered perfectly with the soft goat’s cheese and a drizzle of honey for added sweetness, and is delicious served heated or chilled,” she said.
“We’re looking to change behaviour for what has always been a pre-dinner or pre-entertaining choice, to something to be enjoyed after-dinner. Communicating this new occasion, along with the magnificent range of flavours, will be key to the range success.”
The new range of After-Dinner Dips will retail at Woolworths for $6.99.
