The best bacon in Australia has been chosen at the Australian PorkMark Bacon Awards yesterday.
Campbell’s Superior Meats, West Pymble was recognised as Australia’s Best Bacon with the Short Cut Bacon award.
Big Country Meats n Foods, Coffs Harbour bagged the Best Full Rasher Bacon award.
“Many people are shocked to learn that 70 per cent of bacon sold here is made from imported pork, but there are plenty of great tasting, high quality products made in Australia from 100 per cent Aussie pork. In fact, we’ve just announced the winners of the annual Australian Bacon Awards,” said Australian Pork Limited general manager of Marketing, Peter Haydon.
Australian PorkMark Bacon Awards judge, Fleischmeister Horst Schurger and chefs Simon Bestley and Adam Moore, assessed the appearance, aroma and taste of 125 meat entries. They said Campbell’s Superior Meats have the most excellent and neat appearance with great salty smoke profile.
“When you buy your bacon, remember to check it is made with 100 per cent Australian pork by looking for the pink PorkMark logo or reading the label to ensure it’s at least 70 per cent Australian ingredients,” said Haydon.
Australian Bacon Bonanza will also be held on September 1 and 2 at participating restaurants and hotels including Endeavour Tap Rooms, Icebergs Dining Room and Bar, Macquarie Hotel and others.
