Wesfarmers-owned liquor chain Vintage Cellars has opened a flagship store at the heritage Commercial Bank of Australia building.

The site was previously home to Commonwealth Bank. According to Chris James, associate director at Fitzroys, Vintage Cellars signed a six-year lease with options at $130,000 per annum.

Located on the ground floor of the building, the Vintage Cellars flagship features the brand’s new design. The store’s front presents glass arched windows, which were previously blacked out for ATMs. The former safe has been redesigned into what the brand calls “The Vault”, which houses wines and whiskeys.

“This revitalisation across the building’s wide 12.5-metre frontage has instantly activated this prime section of Lygon Street,” James said. “The current Covid-19 environment was not a deterrent. Discussions for this property have been ongoing for some time and the lease was finalised during the current Stage 4 lockdown.”

Other recent players joining the Lygon Street area include wine bar Lord Lygon, Leonardo’s Pizza Palace and Tooborac Pies & Beer.
