Ben & Jerry’s rolls out frozen dog treats

Ben & Jerry's

Ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s has entered the pet-food sector in the US with Doggie Desserts, its first frozen-treat range for dogs.

The Doggie Desserts lineup comprises two flavours: Pontch’s Mix and Rosie’s Batch. While Pontch’s Mix has peanut butter with a pretzel swirl, the Rosie’s Batch flavour combines pumpkin and mini cookies. The two flavours are named after the dogs of the company’s original founders.

The company said it replaced the dairy base in its existing ice creams with a sunflower-butter base to ensure the products are dog-friendly.

The Doggie Desserts range is available at Ben & Jerry’s online store and will be on shelves later this month at RRP US$2.99 for 4-ounce cups.

Global marketing specialist at Ben & Jerry’s, Lindsay Bumps, said the idea of the frozen treat for dogs was born early last year, when the Covid-19 pandemic created a surge in the number of pet adoptions.
