Plant-based Omni alt-meat products hit Australian stores

Canadian plant-based brand, OmniFoods, has launched its alt-pork range, OmniMeat, into Woolworths supermarket shelves and select grocers across Australia.

The OmniMeat range consists of three varieties – Mince, Luncheon and Strips – made from non-GMO soy, pea, shiitake mushrooms and rice. All are cruelty-free, vegan friendly, and free of antibiotics and hormones. OmniFoods’ arrival in Australia follows the brand’s launch in the US, UK and Asia.

“We believe we are bringing a whole new dimension of plant-based offerings that will accelerate the movement,” said David Yeung, founder and CEO of OmniFoods and Green Monday Group. “Can’t wait to see the mouth-watering recipes and creations from our Aussie friends!”

Besides Woolworths, OmniMeat Strips will also be stocked at select grocers Miracle Supermarkets, Tong Li Supermarket, Vegan Grocery Store and Asian Food Store.

The initiative comes at a time when Aussies are more interested in reducing their meat consumption and shifting to a healthier diet.

The company said research shows that more than half of Aussies have tried or are interested in trying the new generation of plant-based meat products. Meanwhile, 20 per cent of meat eaters also said they had reduced their meat consumption, showing that green eating has garnered increasing awareness and becoming part of Aussies’ daily lives.
