Olivia Grey of SunRice beat five other finalists to win this year’s Joe Berry Award.

The Queensland Grocery Industry Association first established the Joe Berry Award in 1986 when a young Bernie Brookes AM, then a buyer at Woolworths, was the inaugural winner, writing about category development. Brookes was on hand to announce Grey’s success at an awards ceremony this month.

The Joe Berry Award aims to give young executives from different industry sectors an opportunity to compete for recognition. It also intends to elevate the voices of more than 25,000 casual and part-time employees, with strong backing from field team leaders.

The 2024 finalists were Pavlos Tsathas (Kellanova), Grey, Erica Gillis (Simplot), Steven Hunt (Coles), Maria Tremoulas (Coles) and Gabby Dunn (Ferrero).

“A massive shout out to everyone in my network who encouraged me and gave up their time, especially my team at SunRice Group for helping me balance my workload so that I could invest in my personal development,” Grey wrote on her LinkedIn.
