Australian lamb hits Costco stores in the US

Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and Aussie Select have teamed up to offer Australian lamb products in 73 Costco stores across the Southeast region of the US.

The launch is part of Aussie Select’s strategy to build a profile for Australian lamb products in the US as there is an increase in the ready-to-eat and deli meats trend.

Aussie Select offers four products: Agave Rosemary Lamb, Tikka Masala Lamb, Lamb Pastrami, and Lamb Prime Rib.

According to Michael Lee, MLA’s group manager for science & innovation, America had experienced a 154 per cent growth in weekly ready-to-eat or deli meat purchases, but there were no lamb products available.

“American consumers indicated pressures around cooking time and that they have little confidence in cooking lamb,” Lee said.

“As the number one provider of lamb to the US market, the Australian industry has a massive opportunity to break into this market as the first to market ready-to-eat lamb products.”

Australian lamb products are being distributed in states comprising Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico.
