Coca-Cola to use 100 per cent renewable electricity ahead of schedule

Coca-Cola Europacific Partner (CCEP) Australia has secured the remaining electricity requirement to fulfil its commitment to use 100 per cent renewable electricity one year ahead of schedule.

CCEP signed a new Engie-brokered virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA), which will allow the company to purchase the remaining credits from Lightsource’s Wellington North Solar Farm.

This will allow CCEP to transition into full renewable electricity by January 1.

The solar farm is about 970 hectares wide, has more than 1.2 million solar panels, and has the capacity to generate 925,000MWh of renewable energy annually.

“Our partnership with Engie and the signing of the VPPA agreement has accelerated our transition to reach our RE100 target in Australia a full year early,” said Orlando Rodriguez, MD at CCEP Australia.

“This will make CCEP one of the first FMCG players in the country to achieve the RE100 commitment and is an important milestone for our business.”

The initiative forms part of CCEP’s target to reach net zero in Australia by 2040.
