Aldi is set to introduce ‘Snap Pack’ packaging across its own-label beers, a change the supermarket estimates will eliminate over 400 tonnes of packaging waste each year.

The new format, which replaces traditional cardboard sleeves with a glue-based system that holds cans together, will be implemented across four-packs of Galahad, Sainte Etienne, and Brasserie beers.

The initiative forms part of Aldi’s wider effort to adopt more sustainable packaging solutions in response to increasing environmental concerns.

Earlier this year, the supermarket launched an own-label wine in a 95g aluminium bottle, lighter than standard glass alternatives. The change aims to reduce emissions during transport, with the wine bottled in the UK at a facility powered by renewable energy.

In Australia, the giant announced it would phase out all single-use plastic straws from its product range. The move aligns with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Soft Plastics Taskforce initiative, which promotes the removal and recycling of soft plastics across major supermarket chains.
