Humpty Doo Barramundi has become the first Australian barramundi farm to earn Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification.

ASC certification requires farms to undergo independent assessment and demonstrate responsible environmental management, strong fish welfare standards, and support for surrounding communities.

The accreditation reflects the farm’s saltwater wetland treatment system, which replicates natural ecosystems to help reduce environmental impact.

Humpty Doo uses a closed-loop wetland network that replicates tidal and mangrove conditions, recirculating and treating water while converting nutrients into plant and algal growth onsite.

The Northern Territory–based producer says its system helps reduce pressure on natural waterways and supports fish health and production efficiency.

Humpty Doo Barramundi CEO Dan Richards said the recognition strengthens the company’s position in both domestic and international markets.

“This globally recognised milestone supports our strategy of partnering with the world’s leading retailers, chefs and ethically motivated foodservice operators to grow the market for our high-quality, sustainably produced Australian barramundi,” he added.
