Montague Farms has begun stone fruit season, with Donut Peaches and tree plums now returning to stores nationwide.
Donut Peaches are supplied from more than 50,000 trees across Griffith in NSW and Shepparton in Victoria. Montague expects to deliver around 3154 bins, or more than 600,000kg, this season.
Known for its flat shape, the peach variety is known for its naturally lower acidity and higher sweetness. It’s also called a doughnut because one can push its pip out to make a doughnut hole.
Alongside peaches, Montague has also commenced its premium Montague plum season.
The range is sourced from orchards in Queensland’s Stanthorpe, WA’s Perth Hills and Donnybrook regions, and Victoria’s Swan Hill, Cobram and Katunga.
Grower Dean Morpeth from Swan Hill said plums remain a versatile summer staple for both fresh consumption and cooking.
“It’s such a simple festive treat,” he added.
Montague Farm’s peaches and plums are available nationally through Costco and selected independent grocers.
