Beyond Meat has expanded into beverages with the launch of a protein drink, its first product outside the plant-based meat category.

The US company is rolling out Beyond Immerse, a ready-to-drink, lightly carbonated protein beverage available in Peach Mango, Lemon Lime and Orange Tangerine flavours.

Each 12-ounce can comes in one of two versions, containing either 10 grams of protein and 60 calories or 20 grams of protein and about 100 calories.

Beyond Meat said the drinks contain pea-based protein, 7 grams of fibre, vitamin C, and electrolytes. The company added that the beverages contain no genetically modified ingredients or sugar alcohols.

“With Beyond Immerse, we are bringing our pioneering expertise in unlocking the power of plants to a functional beverage line,” said Ethan Brown, founder and CEO of Beyond Meat.

“Beyond Immerse has been specially and carefully designed to provide nutrients that are critical to muscle health, gut health, and immune function, so that whatever the goal is, consumers can Go Beyond.”

The drink range is being sold for a limited time through the company’s direct-to-consumer Beyond Test Kitchen platform, which it uses to test new product ideas. Beyond Meat did not disclose plans for wider retail distribution.

The move follows the company’s announcement in August that it would shift its brand identity to ‘Beyond’ as part of a broader focus on alternative proteins.
