Seafood producers and retailers across Australia have been honoured at this year’s Sustainable Seafood Awards.

Led by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the awards celebrate initiatives across the supply chain that improve sustainability standards and traceability.

Aldi Australia won the ASC Best Responsible Seafood Retailer Award for the fourth consecutive year for its efforts in making certified sustainable seafood more accessible and affordable.

Other major supermarkets were also recognised, with Coles named MSC Best Sustainable Seafood Supermarket for its sourcing policies and transparency.

At the same time, Woolworths Group won both the MSC Community Champion Award and the ASC Aquaculture Champion Award.

“At a time when sustainability claims are under increasing scrutiny, and concerns about greenwashing are growing, credible, science-based certification is more important than ever,” said MSC program director Anne Gabriel.

“This year’s winners are helping to strengthen confidence across seafood supply chains and among consumers.”
