Ube Cream Liqueur has landed on Dan Murphy’s shelves, marking the first time a Filipino craft spirit has been distributed by the national liquor retailer.
The retail expansion follows a significant period of growth for the ube category, with global exports of the purple yam from the Philippines rising by more than 20 per cent last year.
Produced by the Australian-led Destileria Barako in Malay, Aklan, the liqueur is a composite of regional Philippine ingredients. The recipe uses sugar cane spirit from Negros, coconut cream from Mindanao, and ube harvested from Bohol.
The brand’s presence in Australia is managed by 7000 Islands Drinks, a specialist importer established in 2020
