Frugalpac’s paper wine bottles are seeing wider adoption in the US, with California wine label Petalscape launching two wines in the Frugal Bottle.
Part of Full Glass Wine Co’s direct-to-consumer brand Scout & Cellar, Petalscape has released a 2025 Sauvignon Blanc and an NV Red Blend in the paper bottle.
The launch follows the adoption of the Frugal Bottle by major US retailers, including Target, 7-Eleven, Whole Foods, and Total Wine & More, as well as a growing number of American wineries.
CEO Malcolm Waugh said the country had become one of the company’s fastest-growing markets.
“We’re delighted to see another innovative US wine brand choosing the Frugal Bottle,” he said.
“More wineries are recognising that reducing packaging emissions is an important part of building a more sustainable wine industry.”
Produced by Monterey Wine Company in King City, California, the bottles are manufactured using Frugalpac’s frugal bottle assembly machine.
Shannon Valladarez, GM of Monterey Wine Company, said sustainability was becoming a key consideration across the wine supply chain.
“Manufacturing and filling the Petalscape bottles here in King City proves that high-volume, lower-carbon packaging is no longer just a trend; it’s the future of American wine,” she said.
Made from 94 per cent recycled paperboard with a food-grade pouch, the Frugal Bottle is claimed to be five times lighter than a conventional glass wine bottle and has a carbon footprint up to 84 per cent lower. It also takes around five times less water and energy to manufacture.
Louis Amoroso, CEO of Full Glass Wine Co, said the packaging aligned with Petalscape’s sustainability goals.
“The Frugal Bottle aligns perfectly with that vision by significantly reducing the environmental impact of packaging while delivering outstanding California wines,” he said.
Petalscape’s paper-bottled wines retail for US$23 and are available through Scout & Cellar’s direct-to-consumer channel.
