Australian online retailer Beer Cartel has earned international recognition by taking out this year’s Innovation Award at the 2022 BigCommerce Make It Big Awards.
The awards celebrate online retailers’ achievements across four categories including emerging brand, design, innovation and global strategy.
The innovation award recognises a brand that has solved technical e-commerce challenges with the creative use of the BigCommerce platform.
Beer Cartel used API or Application Programming Interface to connect and manage its inventory of more than 1000 beers, as well as enrich the product data of the beer it sells.
Richard Kelsey, the co-founder of Beer Cartel, said it is surprisingly tough to manage the sale of alcohol products on most e-commerce platforms.
“E-commerce platforms aren’t designed to work with that complexity. Thankfully you can get creative and use data connections with other software to create strong inventory controls which is what we’ve done.”
The business will receive US$4000 as a prize and its branding will appear in New York’s Times Square on the Nasdaq Tower.
