Ben & Jerry’s launch vegan ice-cream

ben-jerrysThe US arm of ice-cream manufacturer, Ben & Jerry’s, has announced an expansion of its frozen dessert offering with the launch of a new range of vegan ice-cream.

The non-dairy line-up is almond milk-based, and encompasses a range of four flavours including P.B. & Cookies, (vanilla with chocolate sandwich cookies and peanut butter swirls); Coffee Caramel Fudge (coffee with fudge chunks and caramel swirls); Chocolate Fudge Brownie (chocolate with brownie pieces); and Chunky Monkey (banana with fudge chunks and walnuts).

The company, who has partnered with Vegan Action to ensure all products are certified dairy-free, said that although this endeavour presented challenges, they are confident that the developed products will adequately cater to the burgeoning vegan market.

“Creating these new flavours with a non-dairy base composition that meets the high expectations of Ben & Jerry’s consumers was quite a challenge,” said company spokesperson, Kirsten Schimoler.

“We wanted to bring the same fun with all of the creamy, funky, and chunky swirls plus the Ben & Jerry’s flavour excitement to our non-dairy fans, and we nailed it”.

The company is yet to expand the offering internationally, but is available throughout the US  retailing for US$5.69 a pint.
