Samford pharmacist bags TerryWhite Chemmart award

TerryWhite Chemmart SamfordTerryWhite Chemmart has awarded last Tuesday Samford pharmacist Karen Brown the prestigious Pharmacist of the Year at the TerryWhite Chemmart Awards 2018 held at the Pullman Hotel in Melbourne.

The Australian pharmacy said in a statement announcing her win at the inaugural HEART awards, TerryWhite Chemmart’s chief operating officer, Duncan Phillips said Brown’s passion for pharmacy as well as her motivation and drive made her a worthy recipient for the honour.

“Brown is the perfect representation of what TerryWhite Chemmart stands for,” Phillips said. “A true leader, [she] has driven record growth in her pharmacy by understanding what her local community needs and going the extra distance to deliver for them. By working closely with her team, Brown has redefined how people view their local pharmacy. She has shown the strength of the TerryWhite Chemmart brand by proving we are a true hub of health services and not just a dispenser of medications.”

Now in her tenth year at TerryWhite Chemmart Samford, Brown is a well-known and trusted advisor to many locals, according to the pharmacy.

“Brown’s commitment to the Samford community deserves to be recognised and applauded,” Phillips said.

“Never one to rest on her laurels she is always looking for new ways to inspire her local community through initiatives such as the innovative in-store service The Clinic Hub and the annual Samford Health Expo. Through these initiatives, she has been able to bring together a range of health and lifestyle providers, giving the community a valuable opportunity to come together, share experiences and learn about exciting new health initiatives.

“Brown has opened the doors of TerryWhite Chemmart to the entire community allowing for greater discussions on ways people can improve their wellbeing and lead healthy and active lifestyles.”

TerryWhite Chemmart said the news of Brown’s win didn’t come as a surprise to those who know her best with her colleagues at TerryWhite Chemmart Samford describing her as a true leader and valued member of the community.

“It certainly goes without saying that Brown is a valued member of the Samford community,”
said Rod Garozzo who has worked alongside her as a business partner for close to 10
years.

“To me, [she] embodies what it means to be a true community pharmacist. She puts her
heart and soul into everything she does which is evident by the strong and loyal customer
base she has built.

“Her positive leadership and willingness to go the extra distance for everyone who not only
comes into the shop but for her business partners is inspirational. I’ve learnt so much by working with Brown and I couldn’t think of a more deserving winner of this award.”

Accepting the award at the TerryWhite Chemmart Masterclass, Brown said it was an
incredible honour and privilege to win the award.

“I’m incredibly honoured and privileged to win the TerryWhite Chemmart 2018 Pharmacist of
the Year Award,” Brown said. “This award celebrates and honours the best Pharmacists in the industry, and being the best is about being surrounded by the best. I honestly couldn’t ask for a better network of Pharmacists to work with – from those here at Masterclass, to those in the team in my pharmacy and to my business partners. Thank you for inspiring me to be a better Pharmacist, a better leader and a better person.”

As winner of the TerryWhite Chemmart Pharmacist of the Year Award, Brown received $2,000
towards furthering her education allowing her to continue providing the Samford community
with the best possible advice and service.
