Ulu Hye creates DIY nut milk range
Sydney-based Ulu Hye has launched its new range of plant-based milk products. The Nut and Hemp Mylk Base products allow consumers to create their own milk by simply adding water and blending.
Heidi Peuten and Vasia Vogias set up the business in 2017 spurred on by a desire to cut back on unnecessary packaging.
“The concept of Ulu Hye was born as both Vas Vogias and I were well and truly on a path towards a minimal-waste lifestyle. We wanted to be in business together and make a positive impact on the environment at the same time, so we combined our two areas of expertise and started Ulu Hye,” said co-founder Heidi Peuten.
The Mylk Bases are packed in recyclable, reusable glass jars. One jar of nut paste can create up to 10 litres of milk, meaning less cartons in landfills. The pair worked closely with a food technologist to develop the Nut Mylk bases and the result is a range of vegan, paleo, gluten free, sugar free, soy free products that are free of emulsifiers, additives, thickeners, gums and preservatives.
Peuten, who has a sustainable business and marketing background, and Vogias, who’s a naturopath by trade, wanted to create a product that would allow consumers the convenience of making their own nut milks whenever they want, while simultaneously ensuring minimal waste.
“Ulu Hye empowers people to decide how they like their milk, and how often. Gone are the days
when you have to empty out a carton that hasn’t been used up in time. Our Ulu Hye Mylk Bases,
allow you to make the milk you want, when you want. Its proof you can be kind to your body, bank
and the environment all at the same time,” said Ulu Hye co-founder Vasia Vogias.
Ulu Hye Hemp Mylk Base and Nut Mylk Base are available in over 500 leading health food stores and pharmacies nationwide for RRP A$29.95.
