Barilla takes the plastic out of its blue-box range

Pasta maker Barilla has updated its blue-box packaging to reduce plastic waste.

The new blue box pack, which is being distributed throughout Australia, is constructed from virgin fibre paper obtained from “responsibly managed forests”, the brand says.

According to Barilla, the removal of the soft plastic ‘window’ in its boxes makes the entire pack 100 per cent recyclable, as part of its goal to eliminate all unnecessary plastic from Barilla’s global product packaging by 2030.

The branding of the Blue Box line has also been updated with a new, contemporary logo and colour palette.

“We know that for years consumers have loved seeing our iconic Blue Box pasta on shelf with the plastic window, but it is our responsibility as a global brand to take a step forward for the environment, reducing this unnecessary plastic waste,” said Mette Jorgensen, brand manager of Barilla.

Barilla is an Italian family-run food business that was started in Parma, Italy, in 1877, known for its ready-to-use pasta sauces and pastry goods and has operations in more than 100 countries.

Barilla introduced Spotify playlists last year to assist users in getting their pasta cooked to perfection.
