Burger restaurant chain Grill’d is rolling out a new product called Gamechanger, using grass-fed beef patties, which aims to reduce methane emissions.
The Gamechanger, advertised as “the world’s most sustainable beef burger” uses meat sourced from black Angus cattle. It is a collaboration between Grill’d and Sea Forest, and it is validated by the University of New England NSW.

The cattle are also fed with Asparagopsis – a native and natural Tasmanian seaweed – which cuts methane emissions by up to 67 per cent because it reduces the gas the cattle produce. Ongoing trials on the farm are aiming to reach a 90 per cent reduction in methane.
The business claims the new Gamechanger beef has the same taste as the original, with no seaweed flavour. From now, 61 restaurants across Australia will offer a Gamechanger beef as an upgrade in any Grill’d beef burger for an added $1.
“This is the future of beef – and we won’t stop at 61 restaurants,” said Grill’d founder Simon Crowe.
“But for now, and for only an extra buck, guests can help the planet by choosing a low methane product, simply by upgrading their favourite beef burger.”
Grill’d said the trial will transform the grass-fed beef sector, paving the way for others, and aid in the achievement of national targets set by the federal government to cut methane emissions by 30 per cent by 2030.
