Plant-based food company Upfield is entering a new category in the market – launching Flora, a thickened plant-based cream that claims to pour, whip, and cook just as well as its dairy counterparts.

While some brands in the plant-based cream category use coconut or oats as their base, Flora uses lentils that offer a clean, neutral taste. In addition, the thickened cream is 100 per cent plant-based, palm oil free, and vegan.

Anita Hancock, head of marketing for Flora, said introducing a plant-based cream is the first step in the brand’s roadmap to becoming fully plant-based.

“For Flora, we recognised a real gap in the cream category with no current plant-based alternative for those who enjoy creamy sweet and savoury dishes without compromising taste or performance,” said Hancock.

“Our plant-based cream is not just for those with lactose intolerances or dairy avoiders – it’s for everyone trying to include a little more plant in their week.”

Flora Thickened Plant Cream 500ml is available for an RRP of $6.50 and can be found in the chilled section in all major supermarkets nationwide.

Aside from Flora’s thickened plant cream, Upfield also produces butter, spreads, creams, and cheese. Its brands include Becel + ProActiv, Rama, Country Crock, BlueBand, and Violife.
