Poultry supplier Inghams has inked a long-term agreement with Lodestone Energy to provide renewable energy for its Aotearoa New Zealand facilities.
Starting next April, Lodestone Energy will generate electricity from its solar farms to cover 100 per cent of Inghams’ electrical demand across its New Zealand network, making operations more sustainable and durable.
“Sustainability is at the core of our operations, and this agreement is an important step in delivering on our sustainability targets by sourcing 100 per cent of our electricity requirements from renewable sources,” said Inghams’ chief executive – New Zealand, Ed Alexander.
“We have ambitious sustainability goals, and the long-term agreement with Lodestone allows us to both offset our electricity carbon footprint and secure a stable and cost-competitive energy source for the future.”
Lodestone will also provide Inghams with Renewable Energy Certificates as part of this deal.
According to Inghams, the agreement also reduces the number of carbon credits acquired annually from the voluntary market for Inghams’ two Toitu net carbon zero certified products (Waitoa Free Range Chicken and Let’s Eat Plant-Based).
Earlier this year, the poultry processor acquired Bostock Brothers’organic chicken business for $33 million.
