Australian recycler and remanufacturer Visy has collaborated with two solar energy companies, Energy Aware and 1K5° Commercial, to install solar panels at various sites in Australia.
Visy and Energy Aware installed a total of 2400 KW of solar panels across six sites in Victoria. Meanwhile, 1K5° Commercial plans to install a 2100 KW system at Visy’s Yatala beverage can production in Queensland, which will be finished next month.
According to Visy, the project will lower electricity consumption by 7 per cent at six Visy sites on the Victorian electricity grid and 23 per cent at the Yatala beverage can facility in Queensland.
“While many of our products have up to 100 per cent recycled content – made from household and business recycling – we’re always looking for ways to further reduce our environmental impact and energy footprint,” said Visy’s GM energy, Ryan Santowski.
“Installing solar panels on our sites is one of the many ways we continue to invest in green power and improve the sustainability of the food and beverage packaging we make.”
Earlier this year, Visy rolled out a new heavy-weight shopping bag that is recyclable through kerbside bins.
