The Hershey Company has acquired snackfood maker LesserEvil, to expand its snacking portfolio.

The purchase is still pending regulatory approval, and it is expected to close later this year.

LesserEvil will join Hershey’s other salty brands, such as SkinnyPop, Dot’s Homestyle Pretzels, and Pirate’s Booty.

“Investing in LesserEvil brings a multi-category, better-for-you snacks platform to extend our offerings into new categories and forms, reaching new consumers in more eating occasions,” said Michele Buck, The Hershey Company president and CEO.

“This high-growth brand not only complements our beloved confection and salty snack brands but also brings additional manufacturing capabilities and capacity to meet growing consumer and retailer needs.”

LesserEvil, founded in 2005, specialises in healthy snack products made with organic ingredients. The LesserEvil leadership team will continue to drive the company’s commercial strategy, speed-to-market capabilities, and manufacturing processes.

Earlier this year, the Hershey Company stated that net income increased due to slightly higher net sales in the previous fiscal year.
