The Wine Group (TWG) has acquired several premium and ultra-premium wine brands from Constellation Brands in a move that broadens its portfolio and operational reach.
The transaction includes six brands: Cook’s, J Rogét, Meiomi, Robert Mondavi Private Selection, Simi, and Woodbridge.
As part of the acquisition, TWG will also take over three production facilities and approximately 6600 acres of owned and leased vineyards across California. These include sites in Lodi and Monterey County, as well as the Simi winery in Healdsburg.
Around 500 employees from the acquired sites have joined TWG as part of the transition.
John Sutton, CEO of TWG, said the move supports the company’s in-house innovation capabilities and will strengthen its ability to meet consumer demand across a range of occasions.
Constellation Brands said the divestment aligns with its strategy to focus on high-end products and premiumisation trends.
Bill Newlands, president and CEO of Constellation Brands, said the deal enables the company to concentrate fully on its premium wine and spirits portfolio.
“This positions us to serve better a consumer base that is increasingly seeking high-quality, higher-end products,” Newlands added.
Constellation retains several premium wine labels, including Robert Mondavi Winery, Schrader, The Prisoner Wine Company, Kim Crawford, and Ruffino. The company will also continue to operate spirits brands such as High West whiskey and Casa Noble tequila.
Constellation Brands is an international producer and marketer of beer, wine, and spirits with operations in the US, Mexico, New Zealand, and Italy.
