Metcash is boosting its Northern Territory supply network with a $12 million upgrade to its Alice Springs distribution centre, a project designed to increase capacity and streamline operations across the region.

The upgraded facility will support the wholesaler’s regional supply network (servicing more than 400 remote supermarkets, foodservice and convenience customers) and will provide additional space for emergency food reserves.

“This initiative is more than just an upgrade to our DC,” said Grant Ramage, CEO of Metcash Food. “It’s a commitment to the people of Alice Springs and the communities we serve in the Northern Territory.”

Local builder Jaytex Construction will manage the project, with work starting in December and completion expected by the end of next year.

“Jaytex has invested significant project funding, partnering with Metcash to drive upgrades that will bring long-term benefits to the region,” said Brett Dixon, director of Jaytex Construction and landlord of the property.

“By partnering with Metcash from the earliest concept stage, we’ve been able to create a design that meets their immediate operational needs while providing flexibility for future growth.”

Metcash supplies independently owned supermarkets nationwide, including more than 1250 stores operating under the IGA and Foodland banners.
